6) George Hartman gave this interview

One of the first questions that were asked is where are you from? Sherman responded that he was born in Germany and moved here when he was young. This was very common because the many immigrants were coming to America for many opportunities. The interviewer asked questions like what did you do when you got to America and what was it like for Sherman. He told stories and said, “I would go out and pick up at least 25 quail a day that died because they flew into a telegraph wires. He also said to the interviewer how when he was young “I saw Indians for the first time and got really scared but I was very young.” He also stated “I lived in a very small home with my mother and father and had to walk a mile to get to school everyday.” I think that the interviewer asked very good questions. Sherman told about his hard childhood and all the downs in his like as a kid. Also, the interviewer asked about work and Sheldon told about how he followed his father’s foot steps in the blacksmithing business. He said how he had to tie a burlap sack on his feet to keep from the fiery embers. That shows how poor his family was and how much he had to work. This interview told me a lot about the times back then around the depression and how hard it was to make a living and provide for your family no matter how big or small.
